Two 'restored form the dead' fishponds originally built in 1850 by the local land
owner. In 1991-1992 Todmorden A.S., with the help of various grants restored these ponds,
and the site to public use to enable angling to be recommenced, and walkers to enjoy this
beautiful site once again. Before restoration it was impossible to access the site since
it was overgrown and both ponds were full of silt as a result of opencast mining on Heald
Moor above the site. 30,000 tons of silt was removed from the two ponds, pathways were
built around the ponds, the dam walls were rebuilt, and draw down valves were installed,
both spillways from the ponds were rebuild, and 38 platforms constructed. The ponds opened
officially to fishing May 31st 1992 with a special junior fishing match - Ian Heaps
presented the prizes and was on hand to assist the juniors catch fish.
