Last Sundays Grand Xmas Match was fished in cold calm conditions by 33 senior members, and 8 juniors. Weeks of wet mild weather suddenly changed two days prior to the match to cold, calm and frosty. The seniors fished at Smithybridge Littleborough, while the juniors fished Nehesco. The juniors only caught one small perch between them , but all received a prize and a tee shirt. Fishing for the seniors was reasonable with 24 out of the 33 catching.
Result:
The winning method was 5 metre whip fished bread punch to hand.
After the match the competitors retired to the Hollins Inn, Walsden where local M.P. Christine McCafferty presented the trophies, and all the prizes were distributed. All competitors had pie,chips and peas. Thanks to all who helped organise this very successful match.

Last Sundays GTI sponsored open match on the Rochdale canal at Littleborough was fished by 7 teams of 4 anglers in warn dry weather( for winter) all members of the winning team will be provided with GTI clothing and overall winner a Brilo box. This match was the first of six.

Day tickets are available for some of our waters,
Rochdale canal ( lock
36 Summit, to lock 51 Castleton), Grove lodge, Lower Town House, Croft Head, and
Cliviger fish ponds. All other waters are members only. Day tickets must be
bought in advance, before entering the fishery with tackle, otherwise double
will be charged. No keepnets allowed on day ticket. Obtain day tickets from
tackle shop outlets or from Monarch Garage, Cliviger, or Roundhouse Newsagents,
Littleborough.
Members may use two rods and a keepnet, day ticket holders are allowed only one rod and no keepnet. No fishing during hours of darkness except on canal away from houses (members only).

Tophies will be presented back at the Hollins at 3:00 pm and prizes immediately after by Christine McCafferty M.P. for Calderdale. All entrants will receive a prize, plus pie chips&peas (included in ticket price).
This match will be a week earlier next year, 9th December 2001.
A good stocking of fish is on order for most of our waters to ensure good fishing next summer.

The Annual Grand Xmas Match and trophy/prize presentation will take place on Sunday 17th of December on the lorry park to wooden bridge section of the Rochdale Canal at Smithy Bridge (Littleborough). The draw is at the Hollins Inn, Walsden up to 9am with fishing 10am to 1pm. Tickets now on sale at Macks(Burnley), Todmorden Angling Shop, Rochdale Angling, and Tight Lines at Shaw - £8 Senior(inc.pool) or £4 junior(under 16). This match is for members only and all entrants will receive a prize back at the pub. Chris McCaffery M.P for Calderdale will present the trophies about 3pm with the prizes being allocated afterwards. Please buy your ticket early to enable the organisers to ensure enough prizes are avalible.
The Juniors have their own section in this match with prizes split between under 12's and under 16's - lets see a good turn out of members for this final match this year (for members). There are two additional open matches on the canal at Smithy Bridge this year - they are on Sunday the 3rd of December and Saturday 30th of December - ring Richard for details to book on - 01706 290642
New (2001) membership cards will be on sale in all our usual tackel outlets from about the 2nd week in December. New seniors will not have an entry fee to pay unless they wait untill after 31/01/2001
