If you see any Goosesanders on any of our waters please chase them off, they eat large quantities of coarse fish, and spend Novermber - February on inland lakes , canals, and rivers. This society has placed wires across most of our still waters in an attempt to deter these birds from landing. Please respect these wires we are trying to preserve our fish stocks. You can fish between the wires quite easily.

06/12/2002

This society has temporaily positioned wires (with hanging flags) across most of our ponds in an effort to preserve our fish stocks during the winter months. Large numbers of Goosanders (20+) have been seen feeding on the fish stocks in recent winters and these wires are to deter these birds from landing and therefore eating our fish! Please do not touch the wires. Fish between them, they will be removed in march 2003

B.W.B have given us a copy of their 'Winter Stoppages' book indicating work to be done during winter 2002-2003. The only work to be done on sections on which T.A.S. have the fishing rights are lock 25 (Crossleys) up to lock 30 (Square Pool) for new gates and general repairs, with work starting on 6th January 2003 and compleated by 14th February 2003. Members should keep a close watch on all sections of the canal to ensure fish are not lost as a result of maintenance works. Proof needed of any actual losses please, inform the club and take photos.
